Andy Roddick beats world number 1 Roger Federer
American tennis star Andy Roddick defeated world number one Roger Federer with a 7-6 4-6 6-3 victory in the Sony Ericsson Open quarter-finals.
This was Andy Roddick's second win in 17 career meetings against Roger Federer, with the last being in Montreal in 2003.
Andy Roddick said: "He hasn't missed a ball against me for about six years. I figured the law of statistics had to work for me eventually."
And Swiss star Roger Federer, who hasn't had his usual run of success this season, said: "I think I did well to hang in there."
Although he didn't manage to get a break point until the eighth game of the third set, it was sufficient for Andy Roddick, who went on to win the match.
Andy Roddick, who next plays against Nikolay Davydenko added: "I was saying to myself 'Please hit a big serve and let this be done. I have an opportunity for this to be over in two-and-a-half-seconds'."
