UK swimming director Bill Sweetenham still bitter
British swimming performance director Bill Sweetenham is still reportedly upset by how his approach to training was received in Britain, after he was cleared of bullying last year following a three-month probe.
Bill Sweetenham, 57, who had been brought in from Australia to kick some life into British swimming, said: "They brought me in to change British swimming but when it got tough, British swimming wanted to change me."
Bill Sweetenham, who is stepping down after the Beijing Olympics, added: "It was heart-breaking."
There has been speculation that Bill Sweetenham will stay on as a consultant but it now looks likely that he will go back to Australia, and he alos said: "A couple of countries have approached me but I would prefer to be in Australia, helping Australia, because I'm an Aussie after all."
Bill Sweetenham doesn't regret how he approached his work and added: "I've had massive struggles moving things forward in Britain, but I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and I knew it wouldn't be easy."
