Swimmer Ian Thorpe cleared of drugs offences
Five-times Olympic champion swimmer Ian Thorpe has at last had his name cleared of using banned performance-enhancing drugs.
Australian Ian Thorpe, 24, tested positive in May 2006 with elevated levels of two hormones but experts have agreed with Ian Thorpe that the substances were naturally-occurring in his body at the time.
The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority said Ian Thorpe had no case to answer, and a relieved Ian Thorpe said:"My reputation as a fair competitor in swimming is the thing I value most."
Ian Thorpe added: "I have always been, and remain, a strong supporter of anti-doping testing."
A French newspaper had published details of the test result for Ian Thorpe earlier in March and it was reported that the sample contained abnormal levels of testosterone and leutenising hormone, however, Ian Thorpe denied any use of drugs and argued that the substances were produced naturally.
