Sailor Shirley Robertson is going for gold
Shirley Robertson has said she is hoping to win a third consecutive
gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 37-year-old Scottish
sailor is already the only British female athlete to have gained a gold
at consecutive Games.
Shirley Robertson, from the Isle of Wight, also announced she is
expecting twins during Cowes Week, from 29 July to 5 August and she
said: "I look around all walks of life and women do the most amazing
things and also have families."
Shirley Robertson is, however, not guaranteed a place in the Games,
even though she has won gold medals in Sydney in 2000 and Athens in
2004, and she has to qualify if she is to achieve her goal of a third
straight success.
Shirley Robertson will be competing in the Yingling class, in a team with sailors Annie Lush, 26, and Lucy Macgregor, 19.
"I've been training most of the winter and I've enjoyed it," Shirley Robertson said.
