Irish swimmer Andrew Bree can compete in Beijing Games
Irish swimmer Andrew Bree has been given the all clear to take part at the Olympics Games in Beijing after he received a warning instead of a ban for his positive drugs test.
Bree had previously failed a drugs test when a urine sample discovered traces of the banned substance Levmethamfetamine but he claimed in his defence that it was because he had used the American version of a Vicks Inhaler and that the British one doesn't contain the drug.
A spokesman on behalf of 27-year-old Andrew Bree revealed that Fina had agreed to accept his explanation for testing positive.
There were concerns that Bree could have faced a six-month ban, which would have meant he couldn't take part in the Beijing Games.
Bree had his funding from the Irish Sports Council suspended and he chose not to have his B sample analysed.
Andrew Bree said he was very relieved the problem had been resolved.
