Great Britain swimmers win more medals at European Championships in Hungary
Great Britain's swimming team won five gold medals on the last day of the European Championships in Hungary with the women's 4x100m medley relay team of Mel Marshall, Kirsty Balfour, Terri Dunning and Fran Halsall all claiming gold.
The men's team of Liam Tancock, James Gibson, Todd Cooper and Simon Burnett won bronze in their final and Jo Jackson and Caitlin McClatchey took silver and bronze in the 400m freestyle, whilst Kate Haywood won silver in the women's 50m breaststroke.
The great number of medals on the final day ensured that it was Great Britain's most successful European Championships in terms of number of medals taken with a total of 13.
Although both France and Italy had won more, Great Britain's team claimed the championship trophy, which was given to the squad with the greatest number of points.
Women's relay anchor Fran Halsall,16, was really happy about winning gold for the medley team and holding off world record-holder Britta Steffen on the final leg.
"I saw her coming up on me and I thought I can't let anyone past me," said Fran Halsall.
"It was so hard over the last 50m but I managed to hold on and I'm thrilled to get the gold," Fran Halsall added.
