Great Britain omit Katy Sexton from swimming squad
Great Britain have named a 33-strong swimming squadron for next March's World Swimming Championships in Melbourne but have left out 2003 world 200m backstroke champion Katy Sexton, whose career has not progressed since her world triumph.
Commonwealth champion David Davies hopes to qualify for Melbourne after suffering a foot infection.
A number of up-and-coming swimmers qualified for selection in the light of their performances this year, including European freestyle silver medallist Rebecca Adlington and European junior champions and 2012 prospects Fran Halsall, Jessica Dickons and Lizzie Simmonds.
International veterans James Gibson, Darren Mew, Mel Marshall and Rebecca Cooke are also selected, as is double Commonwealth champion Caitlin McClatchey and European champion Kirsty Balfour.
Head coach Ian Turner said: "Just 16 months out from the Beijing Olympics, the Worlds will provide a real test to the squad.
"It will also have that added bite because as a nation we will have to qualify our relay team for the 2008 Olympics."
