French swimmer Laure Manaudou sacked by Italian club
French swimmer and world and Olympic 400m freestyle champion Laure Manaudou has been sacked by her Italian club, it has been reported.
The club hasn't revealed why they dismissed Laure Manaudou after last weekend's Paris Open meet.
French newspaper L'Equipe had said her French coach Paolo Penso had criticised her performance and commitment and the report also added that her brother would now coach Laure Manaudou.
Italian club president Marco Durante said in a statement: "There's one chance in a million for Laure to understand and come back."
Laure Manaudou, 20, whose boyfriend is an Italian swimmer, had already parted company with French coach Philippe Lucas in May when she had moved to Turin.
Laure Manaudou claimed the 400m freestyle at the 2004 Olympics and went on to win five medals at the World Championships in Melbourne earlier this year, including gold in the 200m and 400m freestyle.
