Former swimmer Ian Thorpe cleared of doping
Former champion swimmer Ian Thorpe's name has been cleared after an investigation by swimming's world governing body, Fina, was called off.
Ian Thorpe, 25, a past winner of five Olympic gold medals, had abnormal levels of testosterone and leutenising hormone in a doping test result last year, although he maintained his innocence throughout the whole time.
A Fina executive director claimed they called off the probe because there wasn't enough evidence against Ian Thorpe.
Fina had considered taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but they have now decided against this and have closed the case entirely.
Ian Thorpe had already had his name cleared by the Australia Anti-doping Authority (ASADA) back in August when experts concluded that the substances he had tested positive for had occurred naturally.
Although testosterone and leutenising hormone are prohibited substances the body also naturally produces them, and which was Ian Thorpe's defence.
