English swimmer Terri Dunning displays well at Wales ASA
English swimmer Terri Dunning put herself as a strong contender for
Commonwealth Games selection with an impressive display at the Wales
ASA Winter Meet. The 20-year-old, coached by Adam Ruckwood in
Birmingham, posted consideration times in the 50, 100 and 200m
butterfly events in Swansea.
Swimmer Terri Dunning set a personal best of one minute 00.11 seconds
in the 100m and another PB of 2:11.47 over the longer distance. Terri
Dunning must now wait for the official team announcement next week.
Head coach Ian Turner, who will lead the team in Melbourne, said that
England will face a tough time at the Commonwealth Games in March.
"Australia as hosts will be emerging from their summer while, for
ourselves and the home nations, we shall be coming out of our winter.
The two preparations couldn't be more different," he said.
"This weekend hasn't been the fastest of meets but it's a difficult time of year for us in which to hold these final trials.
"We're in the middle of our short course season and these long course
trials have been forced upon us due to the timing of the Games
themselves in March."
