Chinese swimmer Qi Hui takes first gold at China Games
Qi Hui, of the Chinese army team, claimed the first gold in the pool at
the 10th National Games in Nanjing, East China, in the women's 400m
individual medley in a swift 4:38.24, which is her best time.
Qi Hui, the former world record holder over 200m breaststroke, led from
the start to finish. Qi Hui said: "The gold is of much value to me -
it's the first race of three here at the Games. I have strived for this
title for eight years and it has been hard."
Zhang Xin from Shandong finished second clocking 4:41.73, and her teammate Yu Yue came in third with 1.11 seconds behind.
In the men's 400m freestyle, Zhang Lin took the title in 3:51.32, well up on Yu Chenglong, on 3:54.50.
In the semi-finals Zhou Yafei clocked 58.59 over 100m butterfly, with Xu Yanwei on 58.97 and Qu Jing on 59.10.
Zeng Qiliang led qualifiers over 100m breaststroke on 1:02.30, to 1:02.51 for Liu Weijia.
