British Swimming chief Bill Sweetenham names squad for European Championships
British Swimming chief Bill Sweetenham has given out the names of a 46-strong squad for the European Championships, which is being held in Budapest from 26 July to 6 August and the list includes Commonwealth champions Caitlin McClatchey, Chris Cook, David Carry and David Davies.
"This is a great opportunity for our swimmers," said Bill Sweetenham, who is national performance director.
"The championships give us a chance to develop both coaches and swimmers in a competition environment."
And Bill Sweetenham went on to say: "There is no doubt the team is a very good team. It's a mixture of senior as well as younger, less experienced athletes but they're all podium focused."
Each country taking part can send a maximum of four athletes per event, and Bill Sweetenham believes it will cause a massive knock-on effect.
"These recent changes are going to make this particular meet very tough," Bill Sweetenham said.
"You're going to see swimmers from the same country having to race each other hard in the morning heats as only two are able to progress to the semi-final of an event.
"This is going to push the standard on and increases the challenge both swimmers and coaches will face," Bill Sweetenham added.
