Australian women swimmers sweep the medals at Commonwealth Games
Australian women swimmers did incredibly well at the pool and swept the medals in the 50m butterfly and 50m breastroke events.
Danni Miatke made a Commonwealth Games record of 26.43 seconds by
winning the 50m butterfly, ahead of Jessicah Schipper and Alice Mills
also in her team.
Alice Mills tied for bronze with South African swimmer Lize-Mari Retief.
Leisel Jones was successful in the 50m breastroke in 30.55 secs, Jade
Edmistone was in second place and Tarnee White third, with England's
Kate Haywood in fourth position.
Danni Miatke was full of praise for the "awesome" Melbourne crowd after her gold medal swim.
"This is just awesome," Danni Miatke said. "I really just tried to
focus on my race and the process I needed to follow and I guess it paid
off in the end."
Leisel Jones is now all set for a gold medal treble as she holds the world records in the 100m and 200m events.
Leisel Jones made a fantastic finish to overhaul Jade Edmistone for the
gold, just four-hundredths of a second outside of Edmistone's world
record, set at the Games trials in Melbourne in February.
