Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe tries to clear his name
Olympic champion swimmer Ian Thorpe has made his final submission to the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) in a bid to clear his name, after he failed a drug test in May 2006 due to abnormal levels of testosterone and leutenising hormone.
A response by ASADA said: "This material will now be examined by us and a determination made as to the way forward."
Ian Thorpe has always denied doping ever since his abnormal test results were made public last March.
The ASADA statement continued: "ASADA can confirm on Wednesday 16 August it received the full and final submissions from Ian Thorpe into the matter of his unusual testosterone, epitestosterone and luteinizing hormone levels,"
ASADA had been criticised for taking a very long time to analyse Ian Thorpe's test.
In April, swimming's governing organisation Fina had asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to rule as to whether Ian Thorpe's sample was evidence of a drugs violation or not.
Both testosterone and leutenising hormone are on the list of prohibited substances, however, the body naturally produces them both.
