American swimmer Michael Phelps breaks a record
American swimmer Michael Phelps excelled himself on Wednesday as he set a new world record at the World Championships in Melbourne.
Michael Phelps won the butterfly 200m gold medal in one minute, 52.09 seconds, which was an incredible 1.7 seconds better than the previous record which he had already set last month.
Michael Phelps, who also broke a new 200m freestyle world record on Tuesday, has now broken the 200m butterfly record six times since 2001.
Michael Phelps is hoping for a record eight world titles in Melbourne and already he has claimed his first three.
"I surprised myself, I went so fast," Michael Phelps said.
"It was obviously fun, you saw the expression on my face, I was shocked. To do 1.52 is just incredible.
"I'm showing I'm in solid shape now. I had a really good swim earlier in the season where I broke the world record - I wanted to take it out tonight, so I'm pretty happy," Michael Phelps added proudly.
