Amateur Swimming Association plans remain for Olympic Aquatic Centre
The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) has said that plans to build the
2012 Olympic Aquatic Centre remain on track still. Designers had been
reportedly told to halve the originally planned size to meet budget
requirements.
But ASA Chief Executive David Sparkes said the capacity will be "as required with seating for 20,000 people proposed".
David Sparkes added: "We are confident the aquatic centre will include
all that is required not just for the Games but as a legacy for London
as well."
Olympic minister Tessa Jowell had confirmed earlier in the week that
architect Zaha Hadid was told to bring costs in line with original
estimates.
David Sparkes continued: "We've been assured that consultation with
British Swimming will continue throughout the project and the
specification agreed with (world governing body) FINA will be delivered
in the shape of a magnificent Olympic venue.
"British Swimming enjoys an excellent relationship with London 2012 and
all involved are working closely together on this exciting venture to
deliver a facility to be truly proud of."
