Welshman Dominic Dale wins at Shanghai Masters
Welsh snooker star Dominic Dale defeated his compatriot player Ryan Day 10-6 at the Shanghai Masters final to claim his first title in 10 years.
World number 16 Ryan Day, 27, started well, but Dominic Dale, 35, battled back hard to win the final eight frames, with a break of 143 in the 10th, to win the game.
Dominic Dale, who is nicknamed "Spaceman," claimed the £48,000 prize at the 8,000-seater Grand Stage and pocketed an extra £2,000 for the highest break of the tournament, with his 143 surpassing the 133 Ian McCulloch made against Shaun Murphy in the first round.
The hard-fought contest was the first all-Welsh ranking snooker final since Mark Williams defeated Matthew Stevens 18-16 at the 2000 World Championship.
Dominic Dale moves on up to 31st in the world rankings, which marks his first time in the elite top 32 for two years.
"I was a bit down when Ryan went 6-3 up, but I just kept telling myself that I could come back," said a jubilant Dominic Dale.
