Squash star Nicol David keeps World Open title
Top seed squash star Nicol David held on to her women's World Open title when she beat back a strong challenge from Natalie Grinham in Sunday's final in Belfast.
Nicol David lost the opener and then fell in arrears again at the Ulster Hall against Australia's Natalie Grinham after managing to win a tough second game but David won the last two games to complete a 1-9 9-7 3-9 9-5 9-2 victory over the fourth seeded player.
Nicol David had already beaten Natalie Grinham's sister Rachael in Saturday's semi-finals.
Natalie Grinham at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne had defeated Nicol David earlier on this year but she got her revenge in the British Open final.
"It was so intense all the way," said Nicol David after the games, and she added: "I really had to work her as she worked the back court really well today - she's so fast and quick.
"In the fifth game, I needed to make sure I got a lead - which gave me the confidence to go forward," explained David, only the fourth player in the event's 27-year history to successfully defend the title.
"I'm so pleased with the way I played. I got so emotional, but I didn't realise how much until the final shot."
