Snooker star Peter Ebdon wins UK Championship
Snooker star Peter Ebdon joined an elite group of players by winning both the UK Championship and the world title with a 10-6 win over Stephen Hendry in York.
Peter Ebdon, 36, and Stephen Hendry were locked at 4-4 after their opening session but Ebdon won the first four frames of the evening.
Stephen Hendry, whose performance hadn't been up to his usual standard made a comeback to close to 8-6 with an impressive break of 116.
However, Peter Ebdon, world champion in 2002, stayed focused and runs of 43, and a 70 in the last frame, clenched his win.
In winning he became only the ninth player - joining Steve Davis, Terry Griffiths, Alex Higgins, John Parrott, Hendry, John Higgins, Mark Williams and Ronnie O'Sullivan - to hold snooker's two most prestigious titles.
"There are so many great players to have won both - it means so much to me to join that select group," Peter Ebdon said.
