Snooker star Mark Selby aims for a Northern Ireland victory
Leicester snooker star Mark Selby, who was in the Crucible finalists last year, hopes to do well at the Northern Ireland Trophy after he failed to impress at the Grand Prix in Aberdeen.
Mark Selby, 24, who reached the 2007 World Championship final as a qualifier but was then beaten by John Higgins, didn't get through to the group stages at the event in Scotland.
Mark Selby is reported to have said: "I want to build on what I achieved at the Crucible. I've not done much this season yet, and it would be great if I can have a decent run in Belfast."
Mark Selby is currently in an impressive enough fifth place in the provisional rankings but he wants to do much better than this, and he also said: "Ever since I was a junior player, I've wanted to be world champion and world number one."
Mark Selby will next play against either Barry Hawkins or Jamie Burnett when he enters the competition at the second round stage.
