Snooker star Joe Perry beats Stephen Maguire
English snooker star Joe Perry has qualified for the semi-finals of the World Championship by defeating Stephen Maguire with a 13-12 victory.
It could have been either player that was likely to be the winner and both the opponents played at their best - this meant that the match ended with a decider and Perry started with a break of 33.
His snooker rival Stephen Maguire then missed two chances but this left Joe Perry to clinch his victory with a 54 break.
World number 18 snooker player Perry now goes forward to face Ali Carter, who took a 147 maximum break in his quarter-final win against Peter Ebdon.
A delighted and very proud Joe Perry said afterwards: "I'm gradually fulfilling all my ambitions. When you turn pro you want to play at the Crucible, then reach the one-table stage, then reach the final and then win it. I am absolutely thrilled."
