Snooker star Jimmy White injures neck

jimmy Snooker star Jimmy White cricked his neck and the injury ended his chance of getting through to the 2008 World Championship when he was beaten 10-3 by Mark King in the final qualifying round.

Mark King quickly reached a score of 5-0 and hung on to an 8-1 lead at the close of the morning session, and after that Jimmy White failed to battle his way back.

Jimmy White blamed his neck injury and said: "Somehow I cricked my neck on Saturday. I had massages all day on Sunday but it didn't seem to work. Perhaps it was caused by the tension of playing in the final qualifier, I don't know. I'm in absolute shreds."

This year marks the second consecutive year that Jimmy White has failed to get through to the stages of the contest that get shown on TV.

After he had been beaten Jimmy White added: "I couldn't hit a safety shot. I even had a massage between sessions to help me. But I'll be back next year. I've been putting the work in recently and I know I'm playing OK."
