Raymond van Barneveld beats world darts champ Phil Taylor
Dutch darts player Raymond van Barneveld won his first PDC World Championship title after beating 13-time world champion Phil Taylor 7-6 in an exciting final.
Raymond van Barneveld had to attack from behind after Phil Taylor made a very impressive start to go into a 3-0 lead but Van Barneveld, who left rival organisation the BDO in February, battled his way back to equalise the match at 5-5.
Raymond van Barneveld and Phil Taylor then traded sets before Van Barneveld managed to win the title in Purfleet.
The match had been billed as a dream final and that was how it actually turned out with both players giving dazzling performances.
Phil Taylor, wearing a flamboyant orange shirt, had won the right to throw first after scoring the nearest the bull backstage but, as is his custom, gave the honour to his rival in an attempt to make an early breakthrough.
