Olympic champion badminton player Taufik Hidayat pulls out
Former world champion and current Olympic champion in the men's badminton singles, Taufik Hidayat, has withdrawn from the All England Championships in Birmingham.
There were doubts over whether he was taking part or not and the organisers of the event last week are reported to have confirmed that Taufik Hidayat, 25, would take part. However, Indonesian badminton officials have now said that he has withdrawn from the championships.
The reason given by the Indonesian officials was that Taufik Hidayat "was not physically prepared".
Taufik Hidayat had previously said that the All England Championships was going to be his target this year although he has not played in Birmingham since he got through to the 2004 semi-finals.
This year Taufik Hidayat has only taken part in the Malaysian Open but in his past successful career Taufik Hidayat won the 2005 world championships and 2006 Asian Games.
