Guernsey bowls player Alison Merrien wins World Indoor Cup
Guernsey bowls player Alison Merrien defeated world number one Val Smith in the final this year's World Indoor Cup, which was held at the Warilla Bowls Club in Australia on Friday.
Alison Merrien won the first set 17-3, but she was defeated in the second 1-10, however, she was victorious in the tie-break 4-0.
Alison Merrien had also already won November's 2007 World Champion of Champions, which happened to be staged at the same venue.
A proud Alison Merrien said: "I'm on the top of the world - it's fantastic to do it once here but twice is even better."
Alison Merrien went on to add: "The first set I took quite easily, I had some very good drawing shots and Val just couldn't reply. In the second set she was obviously going to step her game up which she did. But when it came to the tie-break, I managed to pip her, it was a very close game."
