Ex-world champion darts player Andy Fordham taken ill
Former world champion darts star Andy Fordham has been forced to pull out of the Lakeside World Championship at Frimley Green after he became ill.
Andy Fordham, 44, nicknamed The Viking, suffered breathing problems due to a chest infection and he was taken to an ambulance on a stretcher. Andy Fordham's condition in hospital was described as "stable" on Tuesday.
Andy Fordham was due to play against Australian Simon Whitlock in the first round on Monday.
However, back in November 2004, Andy Fordham suffered an asthma attack during a break in his 'unification' clash with PDC champion Phil Taylor and had to withdraw when losing 5-2.
Andy Fordham lost four stone in weight after being on the television show "Celebrity Fit Club."
Simon Whitlock, who defeated Andy Fordham 3-0 in the first round last year, will now play either Niels de Ruiter or Brian Woods in the second round but he was more worried with the health of Fordham.
"I hope Andy is okay. Olly Croft (of the British Darts Organisation) came up to me half an hour before the match and said Andy wasn't fit to play, that he was having trouble breathing," Simon Whitlock said.
