Darts player Kirk Shepherd beats Wayne Mardle
Darts player Kirk Shepherd shocked Wayne Mardle when he beat him 6-4, and in so doing set up a PDC World Darts final contest against John Part on New Year's Day.
Wayne Mardle was hotly tipped to beat Kirk Shepherd after defeating 13-time world champion Phil Taylor in the last eight.
And indeed, Wayne Wardle claimed the first set 3-0, but Kirk Shepherd, 21, was unfazed and went into the lead with a 3-1 score before his opponent battled back to make it 4-4.
However, Kirk Shepherd held his nerve to beat Wayne Mardle in the end.
Canadian player John Part had earlier qualified for the final with an impressive 6-2 victory against Kevin Painter, and afterwards he said: "It was a tough match all the way through."
But the real star of the evening was undoubtedly Kirk Shepherd who has smashed Wayne Mardle's title chances for another year.
