Badminton player Nathan Robertson injured
British badminton player Nathan Robertson will be unable to do any more training for the Olympics for the next six weeks, because he has an injured ankle, which is being operated on this coming weekend.
It had been hoped that Robertson, 30, who had claimed the Olympic mixed doubles silver medals with Gail Emms four years ago, would not have to have surgery until after the event was over. However, England head coach Ian Wright explained: "There are foreign bodies inside the ankle joint and it is prudent to clear it up and give Nathan peace of mind."
Wright added: "It's unfortunate the recovery cuts into our 12-week Olympic preparations."
Nathan Robertson should be well enough to take part in the Olympic Games, which begins on 9 August but he will be badly prepared with regard to pre-Olympics training.
Robertson and Emms won the world mixed doubles title in 2006, but haven't been able to come up to that standard since then.
