Robert Walford to miss out riding Kingscliff
Robert Walford is going to miss out on the chance to ride
second-favourite Kingscliff in the King George VI Chase at Sandown on
Boxing Day because the 25-year-old rider suffered a suspected fractured
collar-bone while schooling a horse at Robert Alner's Dorset yard.
Robert Walford was taken to hospital for X-rays.
Robert Walford rode Kingscliff on both of his starts this term, beating Kicking King in the Betfair Chase at Haydock.
"It is just unbelievable but that is racing for you," said Robert Alner.
"Robert was riding a horse I was wanting to run at Uttoxeter - he isn't
a horse who has had problems with his jumping before but I just wanted
him to have a pop before he ran.
"They jumped a small fence then went to the ditch and took off fine but
the horse tripped on landing and fell over - it is desperate luck."
Kingscliff is the general 9-4 second favourite behind Kicking King in the King George.
