Legendary jockey Lester Piggott in Swiss hospital
Legendary retired jockey and horse racing champion Lester Piggott is in intensive care in a Swiss hospital suffering from a heart problem, which he has had trouble with before.
Lester Piggott, 71, was taken ill in December and spent several days in hospital then before going home to recuperate, however, sadly he has failed to get over the condition completely and it has made a comeback.
It has been reported that Lester Piggott's wife Susan and daughter Maureen Haggas have flown to Switzerland to see him, and his son-in-law, William Haggas, said: "The latest news we have is that Lester is conscious and coherent."
Lester Piggott retired in 1994 after an incredible career with 4,493 wins, including nine at the Derby.
Lester Piggott was due to go to a special race day in his honour at Newmarket on Saturday but this has had to be called off.
Members of his family and friends including Sir Peter O'Sullivan and former jockeys Jimmy Lindley and Bruce Raymond had been expected to join Lester Piggott for the event.
