Jockey Philip Hide in hospital after fall at Cheltenham
Jockey Philip Hide is described as being in a "stable" condition in hospital after he suffered a "crashing fall" at Cheltenham on Saturday and it looks like he now faces a long lay-off after fracturing his pelvis, which requires an operation, and sustaining a further injury to his head.
A spokeswoman at the Cheltenham General Hospital said: "He had concussion and was very confused after the fall, but the brain scan was normal."
Philip Hide, who has ridden 14 winners this season, was injured during a novices' hurdle on Saturday's card when he was thrown into the running rail when Hatch A Plan, stumbled on landing and fell at the first flight.
At first he seemed lucid but Philip Hide's condition later got worse in the racecourse's medical centre and he had to be rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
