Hi Cloy beats Moscow Flyer in bizarre victory
Moscow Flyer finished a well-beaten fourth in Tuesday's Paddy Power
Dial-A-Bet Chase at Leopardstown as Hi Cloy claimed a quite bizarre
victory.
Central House seemed certain to win in the closing stages but jockey
Roger Loughran misjudged the winning post, and eased up well short of
the line.
The embarrassing error enabled 8-1 shot Hi Cloy to take victory ahead of Fota Island with Central House in third.
First year professional Roger Loughran was given a 14-day ban for making this mistake.
Moscow Flyer was second for most of the race but faded in the closing stages.
Jessica Harrington's dual Queen Mother Champion Chase winner made a
slight mistake early on and jockey Barry Geraghty said that another
less-than-perfect jump at the last had put paid to his chances.
"Maybe his age has caught up with him but I think that he's definitely better than he showed today," said Barry Geraghty.
"I don't think he's gone yet and hopefully we'll get him right for Cheltenham and make him hard to beat there."
The Dessie Hughes-trained Central House jumped the final two fences
clear and it was halfway up the run-in that Roger Loughran thought he
has passed the winning post when he stood up in the irons and punched
the air.
And he was still celebrating as Hi Cloy stayed on strongly from the back of the field under Andrew McNamara to grab the spoils.
Hi Cloy's trainer Michael Hourigan said he was sorry for Roger Loughran.
"It was just a human error. It happened and it will happen again," said Michael Hourigan.
