Former jockey Kieren Fallon cleared of race-fixing
Former champion racing jockey Kieren Fallon has been cleared of race-fixing by an Old Bailey judge.
Two other riders and three other people have also been acquitted.
The judge presiding over the case directed the jury to find those charged not guilty of conspiracy to defraud customers of betting exchange Betfair.
Kieren Fallon said in a statement afterwards: "I am of course relieved and delighted, but also outraged. There was never any evidence against me."
Kieren Fallon and the accused men denied attempting to make horses lose in 27 races between December 2002 to August 2004.
The main witness for the prosecution was Australian racing steward Ray Murrihy but he had to admit he knew very little about the rules and culture of horse racing in the UK, and judge Mr Justice Forbes said: "It is abundantly clear that his evidence fell far, far short of establishing a prima facie breach of UK racing rules."
The investigation for the trial is reported to have lasted three-and-a-half years and is said to have cost the taxpayer as much as £10m.
