Doncaster racecourse to be redeveloped
Doncaster racecourse will be closed for redevelopment until 2007 after Monday's Xmas National Hunt meeting.
Demolition at the racecourse will begin in January and the course will be reopening in August 2007.
The St Leger, one of the year's four Classics, will be held at York in 2006 before returning to Doncaster in September 2007.
"We regret having to close the course but the benefits will be felt for
many years to come," said Doncaster's managing director Ted Taylor.
The first phase of the redevelopment will be the demolition and
rebuilding of the Yorkshire Stand and the erection of a new stables
complex and a hotel and a new Doncaster Bloodstock Sales facility are
also planned over the next two years.
