Welshman Ian Woosnam wants to be Ryder Cup captain
Welsh golf star Ian Woosnam is hoping to become the captain for the European Ryder Cup team when the event is held at the Celtic Manor in Wales in 2010.
The Ryder Cup for 2010 is going to be the first time that the tournament has been staged in Wales and Woosnam would be the obvious choice of captain.
Europe are hoping to take back the trophy after they were beaten by the American golf team this year in Valhalla.
Woosnam helped guide Europe to their Ryder Cup victory against the Americans at the K Club in 2006.
Spanish golfer Jose Maria Olazabal, who was the European vice-captain for the Ryder Cup this year, has been a serious candidate for the role of captain again for 2010 but he says he would prefer to be a player at the event in Wales.
Olazabal is currently recovering from a knee injury.
Sandy Lyle, who was Woosnam's assistant in Europe's 2006 win, is also interested in the job and Scottish star Colin Montgomerie is also hotly tipped.
