Weather forecast good for Pebble Beach golf
The weather forecast looks good for Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on
Thursday when Phil Mickelson starts his defence at the Monterey
Peninsula event.
This golfing event has often been ruined by rain in the past and 10
years ago, Jeff Maggert took a one-stroke lead into the weekend before
the tournament was given up on for this reason.
However, Davis Love III has not missed Pebble Beach once since he turned pro in 1987.
Davis Love III said: "I always love coming here. You come to a place where you've won before and you feel comfortable."
In spite of missing the cut at the Bob Hope Classic in January and also
at last week's Phoenix Open, Davis Love believes he has been playing
better than his results have shown.
"I just haven't put any good streaks together," the 1997 US PGA
champion said. "I've had a lot of big numbers at the wrong time.
"Last week I was rolling along pretty good and then I made a seven on a par three. Things like that kill your momentum.
"But I've been hitting the ball better and better every week," added
Davis Love III, who tied for 24th at the Buick Invitational in San
Diego just two weeks ago.
The event is well known for its mix of celebrities and business
magnates, its six-hour rounds and bumpy greens with 360 but it is also
associated with big winners and Pebble Beach is also known as one of
golf's most beautiful courses.
