US golfer Jim Furyk wins at the Chevron World Challenge

jim furykAmerican golf star Jim Furyk has successfully ended a drought of victories spanning more than two years by becoming a winner at the Chevron World Challenge in California.

Furyk finished on 13 under, one ahead of Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell at the event at which Tiger Woods, who normally hosts it, was not able to take part this year.

Woods had been in a recent and much-publicised car accident and has called off all appearances for the rest of the year while he recovers from injuries. McDowell got a place in the tournament after Woods pulled out and he was a close rival for the lead with Furyk.

However, he was not to be the winner and had to make do with a birdie and a 70 as the runner-up. Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington were next in line in third and fourth places.

Winning the Chevron World Challenge was Furyk's first triumph since the 2007 Canadian Open. This victory has moved Furyk up to sixth place in the world golf rankings.
