US golf star Tiger Woods takes the lead at Quail Hollow Championships

US golf star Tiger Woods has been playing well and gone into the lead on day one of the Quail Hollow Championships that are being held in Charlotte.

33-year-old Woods, who is the current world number one in the sport, came up with six birdies in his last nine holes and claimed a seven-under-par round on the American golf course.

Woods had already won the title back in 2007, however, last season he couldn't defend it because he had had an operation on his knee and was recovering from the surgery. Golfer Anthony Kim was the winner when Woods was away.

Woods was back and playing in some of his best form and showed he was aiming to win again.

He picked up shots on his last three holes to go ahead past the other players and show who the leader was.
