US golf star Tiger Woods plays well in Australia
American golf star Tiger Woods is sharing the lead at the Australian Masters in Melbourne. The current world number one in the sport came through with a six-under-par first round of 66 on the Kingston Heath course there.
21-year-old South African golfer Branden Grace, and James Nitties from Australia, jointly share the lead with 33-year-old Woods.
The American had not played in the country for as long as 11 years, so it was a comeback for him to Australian soil as he played well in front of the crowd of over 21,000 spectators.
Woods was in excellent form apart from a spot of trouble he ran into with a tree. He said afterwards that he had had a "pretty good day" apart from that.
Golf stars at the event that made their start on the course later on in the afternoon had winds to contend with and never managed to match the earlier scores.
