Tiger Woods is closing on Vijay Singh's single-season earnings
Tiger Woods will have yet another record in his sights when he returns to action at the Funai Classic in Florida on Thursday.
With another three events remaining on the PGA Tour calendar, Tiger
Woods is closing on Vijay Singh's single-season earnings mark of
US$10,905,166.
The world number one has $9,913,024 and so needs just under $1m more to eclipse the total won last year by the Fijian player.
Tiger Woods, however, is very keen to add a seventh title to a 2005 list, which includes the Masters and the Open.
"I'd much rather keep having the highest total for wins every year," Tiger Woods said.
But a top-quality field stands between him and victory at the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Three of the world's top four ranked players are vying for a $4.4m
prize fund at an event, which Tiger Woods won in 1996 and 1999.
Vijay Singh captured the title in 2003 and finished in a tie for second last year behind Ryan Palmer.
And World number four Retief Goosen will be hoping for a return to the form he displayed last month.
September saw the South African win consecutive titles at the China Masters in Beijing and the German Masters in Cologne.
