Tiger Woods defends his Open title at Hoylake

tigerwoods World number one golf star Tiger Woods will be defending his Open title in the company of three-times winner Nick Faldo and Shingo Katayama at Hoylake on Thursday.

Tiger Woods, who won by five strokes at St Andrews last year, will begin at 1309 BST and Masters champion Phil Mickelson makes a start with Ulster golfer Darren Clarke and Yasuharu Imano of Japan at 0920.

World number three Vijay Singh, European number one David Howell and American Zach Johnson tee off at 0820.

South Africa's Ernie Els, the 2002 champion at Muirfield, starts at 0758 with England golfer Luke Donald and Italian Edoardo Molinari, winner of the 2005 US amateur title.

Scottish golf star Colin Montgomerie, who was runner-up behind Tiger Woods at last year's championship, will begin at 0858 in the company of John Daly and Australian Stuart Appleby.
