Swedish golf star Annika Sorenstam stays in lead
Swedish golf star Annika Sorenstam had a mixed round but managed to stay at the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the World Championship in California.
Annika Sorenstam fired in six birdies but also had three bogeys and a double-bogey in her 71 at Palm Desert.
Annika Sorenstam, aiming for her sixth title in the elite event, shares the lead at six-under 138 with compatriot Sophie Gustafson and American Paula Creamer and Sherri Steinhauer is one behind, while Michelle Wie is eight off the lead.
"I hit some brilliant shots at times and some really poor ones," Annika Sorenstam said. "I think what I've got to do now is go to the range and just kind of figure it out.
"I need to be a little more solid if I'm going to score well the next two days. It's tough on this golf course if the wind picks up and I start spreading it the way I did," Annika Sorenstam added.
Michelle Wie, who celebrated her 17th birthday on Wednesday, recorded four birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey seven at the third hole in her 72, and is tied for 15th.
"It doesn't feel like I played even-par," Michelle Wie said.
