Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia pulls out of World Match Play at Wentworth
Spanish golf star Sergio Garcia has withdrawn from the World Match Play at Wentworth in order to take some rest for the Ryder Cup.
Sergio Garcia, who had qualified for the elite field of 16 based on his performance at the four majors, is going to be replaced by Argentinean golfer Angel Cabrera.
The World Match Play offers golf's biggest first prize of £1m and even first-round losers receive £60,000.
Chris DiMarco, Phil Mickelson and Geoff Ogilvy are also not appearing at the event, which starts on 14 September but Tiger Woods will be there, along with Michael Campbell, Luke Donald and Colin Montgomerie.
"This is my sixth week out of seven. I've got next week off, but then I go to Switzerland," said Sergio Garcia.
"If I played Wentworth as well, then the Ryder Cup, then the American Express, it would be four in a row and I very rarely do that," Sergio Garcia added.
