Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia beats Paul Goydos

garcia Spanish golf star Sergio Garcia has beaten Paul Goydos in a play-off to win the Players Championship at Sawgrass. This victory marks his first PGA Tour title in three years.

Garcia tied with Goydos on five-under and the two golfers had to deal with the difficult short 17th in the play-off, however, the Spaniard's excellent tee shot set up a par but his opponent double-bogeyed.

Afterwards a proud Sergio Garcia said: "It's just a lot of hard work that is starting to pay off. It made me feel good for everybody that matters to me."

Making a little joke about the world number one's absence Garcia added: "And I want to thank Tiger Woods for not being here. That always makes things a little bit easier."

Tiger Woods had to miss the event because he was recovering from knee surgery.
