Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez defends Wales Open
Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez expects it to be difficult when he attempts to become the first player to defend the Wales Open, which begins at Celtic Manor on Thursday.
Miguel Angel Jimenez, 42, tore up the par-69, 6,743-yard Roman Road course back in 2005 and closed with a record-equalling 62, however, this year he is up against a different quality field of players, including US Open champion Michael Campbell and Colin Montgomerie.
"I loved my first visit, the tournament has again attracted a very classy line-up," said Miguel Angel Jimenez.
"I knew that the course would present a tough challenge last year so I was delighted to win by four shots, this year my aim is to put in another strong challenge," Miguel Angel Jimenez added.
Michael Campbell, in readiness to defend his US Open title at Winged Foot, will be making his fourth appearance at the Celtic Manor, where he finished joint 15th last year.
"It's vitally important I play well at the Wales Open as it's my last event before the US Open in two and a half weeks," said Michael Campbell.
"It worked well last year and I'm hoping it'll have the same effect this year," Michael Campbell added.
