South African golfer Trevor Immelman wins the Masters
South African golf star Trevor Immelman has beaten world number one Tiger Woods to make a surprising win at the Masters at Augusta.
Trevor Immelman, 28, defeated Tiger Woods by three shots and was triumphant, and just four months after he had had surgery to remove a tumour.
A very proud and happy Trevor Immelman said: "Here I am, after missing the cut last week, Masters champion. It is the craziest thing I have ever heard."
Before this weekend, Trevor Immelman's best result since he had his operation was 40th, and then he missed the cut at the Houston Open at the beginning of April so for him to win at the Masters really surprised the golfing world.
However, whilst many people were not expecting much from him, Trevor Immelman had golf veteran and legend Gary Player supporting his bid to win.
Gary Player, 72, set a new Masters record with his 51st appearance at the event and Trevor Immelman said he felt sure that it was encouragement from Gary Player that helped give him the confidence he needed to win .
