South African golfer Keith Horne takes the lead at Abu Dhabi
Little-known South African golfer Keith Horne shot a course record 66
and took a surprise first-round lead in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Golf
Championship.
34-year-old Keith Horne's six-under-par total put him two shots clear of Vijay Singh.
Keith Horne said the gusting wind had helped him do better than his
better-known opponents.
"I am used to the wind. I grew up on the coast in South Africa and I
play well in the wind so I am quite happy to see it blowing and I hope
it keeps blowing for the next three days," Keith Horne said.
"I think the harder the golf course plays, the better for me. I have to
concentrate more then and generally the better I do, so I hope it
continues to play tough through the week."
Keith Horne, who was only in the tournament because of a top-five
finish at the South African Open in December, was very happy with his
performance.
