Ryder Cup chiefs discuss extension
Ryder Cup chiefs are to discuss granting an extension to the golfing event to four days from the usual three.
The biennial match play event between Europe and America now starts on a Friday but officials will look into moving the start forward in 2010.
The change would spread the matches out, helping to provide a solution for Welsh autumn weather, and also increase revenues.
"It is a situation we are looking at," said Sandy Jones, chief executive of the Professional Golfers' Association.
"No decision has yet been taken and won't be for some time. Certainly not until later this year at the earliest," Sandy Jones added.
The 2010 competition will be held at Wales' Celtic Manor but because of a restructuring of the American PGA season from 2007, the event will probably move from its September slot to October.
However, shortened daylight hours and the threat of bad weather could spoil the event in its current format.
"The proper thing to consider is the playing of the matches," Sandy Jones told The Times newspaper.
