Padraig Harrington wins golf Order of Merit
Irish golf star Padraig Harrington has achieved one of his main career ambitions by winning the Order of Merit.
"This has been a big goal of mine down the years," said Padraig Harrington, who pipped Paul Casey to the European number one title at the Volvo Masters.
"Ten years ago I would have been happy to be a journeyman finishing 70-75th. I've come a long way. I'm very proud," Padraig Harrington, 35, added.
And Padraig Harrington continued: "Hopefully I can keep going forward and maybe come back better and stronger and win it again."
At an exciting close to the European season, it had looked as if Padraig Harrington would finish the Volvo Masters tied for third place, which would not have been enough to claim the Order of Merit, however, Sergio Garcia's dropped shot at the final hole in Valderrama meant Harrington earned a share of second place and that pushed him up above Paul Casey in the rankings.
"I never lost patience. My caddie kept pushing me to stay focused," said Padraig Harrington.
