PGA Tour rookie JB Holmes wins at Phoenix Open
PGA Tour rookie, American player JB Holmes, 23, claimed a seven-shot victory at the Phoenix Open in Scottsdale.
J B Holmes was just one ahead at the start of the day but eagled the
par-five 15th on his way to a five-under-par 66 in Arizona.
J B Holmes, who turned professional last year after completing college
studies was only competing in his fifth PGA Tour event, and he finished
on 21 under.
And defending champion Phil Mickelson birdied five of the last six holes for a 66 and a tie for seventh at 13 under.
J B Holmes said he was aiming for more success following this surprise victory.
"That was one of my goals, to win out here," J B Holmes said.
"I want to win another one. You don't see a guy enter a tournament
thinking he doesn't want to win. They want to win every week. I am the
same way."
